Yari unlock and training: from Modaiwa Island to field use · Ghost of Yōtei

Find the spear teacher, try the weapon’s reach and troubleshoot a remaining technique objective.

Start on Modaiwa Island

Interact with the planted spear on Modaiwa Island in western Ishikari Plain to begin The Way of the Yari. Complete Takahashi’s training and the tale to obtain the weapon. Push Square corroborates the island and quest.

Check the route available in your current story progress as well as the objective marker, rather than following a straight line on a map. This article concerns the base-campaign unlock, not equipment acquisition in additional modes.

Use the introduction to verify controls

Once you hold a new weapon, read the on-screen inputs instead of rushing through the lesson. Initially, the goal is matching the requested action to what you actually press.

The training includes spearing fish and a kick. If one of those objectives remains, return to the current instruction rather than searching for more enemies. Distinguishing introductory tasks from later combat practice makes your progress easier to track.

Test reach against a sickle user

The Yari offers reach and answers sickle-wielding enemies. Our suggested exercise is to use a familiar opponent and observe your starting distance and position after the first attack.

Do not assume that owning a spear makes every distant attack safe. If an attempt misses or fails, check distance and whether your escape space was blocked. There is no reason to keep using the new weapon against every enemy simply because you have just unlocked it.

When the follow-up technique objective remains

The Path of the Yari requires Higashi Lumberyard, Bold Kaji Forge and learning a Yari technique at an altar. PowerPyx names Typhoon Sweep; GameWith describes learning a new Yari technique without naming an exclusive choice. Follow your current objective rather than assuming only one named technique can satisfy it.

Compare the current objective with your technique list before revisiting a cleared location. Identify the missing condition first. If the name differs in your game language, compare the English name and description to avoid choosing an unrelated branch.

Before taking it into a larger fight

Separate ownership, quest progress and your experience using the weapon. One failed attempt is not a useful damage comparison; try a short repeat against the same type of opponent.

  • Is the Modaiwa introductory tale complete?
  • Is the current objective an unlock or follow-up training?
  • Have you tried it against a sickle wielder?
  • Did you leave room and a direction to evade afterwards?
