Identify the moment that goes wrong
Losing a fight does not identify its cause. Ask whether you missed the warning, saw it but reacted too late, or took damage while extending a counterattack. The sequence below is an editorial troubleshooting approach, not a universal preset.
The base campaign offers five presets plus Custom. Change difficulty through Settings, then Gameplay. Do not assume that Legends or other additional modes share these rules.

Make warnings readable first
Enhanced Combat Cues enlarges attack glints; Projectile Indicator warns of offscreen ranged attacks. Aim Assist helps ranged targeting.
Try the first two against a familiar enemy before changing combat timing. If the cue becomes readable but you still miss the response, you have isolated a different problem. Changing several options together makes it harder to tell which one helped.

Use Custom to isolate timing
Custom separates factors including aggression, incoming damage and parry/dodge timing. If you enjoy the pace but struggle to react, try relaxing the timing setting first.
If you die before observing the next move, lowering incoming damage may give you more useful practice. Check your choice in a group encounter as well as a duel: one boss is a poor test of the entire game.

Reduce input and visual strain
Simplified holds and rapid presses are available. Blind-bomb flashes can become dark, and a centre dot is optional. Labels vary with the game language.
Test control comfort separately from visual effects. Keep a setting that makes play more comfortable; discomfort is not a useful measure of combat mastery. This is a practical comparison process, not a claim that one configuration suits everyone.

Evaluate the next encounter
Use a familiar enemy type and record the following. Fewer failures at the original sticking point matters more than winning one attempt.
- Did you actually see the attack warning?
- After seeing it, did you press the intended control?
- After escaping, did an unnecessary extra attack get you hit?
